About the exhibition

Sarah Ann Jones is a visual artist that works to hold the tension between light and shadow, allowing new possibilities to unfold. In 2016, inspired by her own night-time dreams, she created Throat-Song, an installation of sculptures and photographs. She then named the pieces after Rumi poems which had been part of the texture of her studio practice as she created the work. First shown during Fotoseptiembre 2016, the installation is reimagined here and includes the addition of a new piece created to honor both the spirit of Rumi and the community space in which the exhibition currently resides. For more information about the artist, visit www.sarahannjones.com. A price list for the art on view is available in the church office. Photographic prints are available in a range of sizes. A portion of the proceeds from all sales will be donated to University Presbyterian Church.

Artist reception

You are invited to join us for a courtyard reception for artist Sarah Ann Jones’s exhibition “Throat-Song” at noon on this coming Sunday, September 10, 2017 in the Community Education Building forum at University Presbyterian Church, 300 Bushnell Ave., San Antonio, Texas (across from the Landa Library). Reception will include a brief introduction by Jones as well as music played by the Raindrop Ensemble, featuring traditional Sufi instruments the ney and oud.

Sufi Dhikr Circle

Through a lovely synchronicity, I met Narjis Pierre while installing the show at University Presbyterian Church and found out that a Sufi Dhikr Circle is meeting the same day of the artist reception but later in the evening near Jefferson High School. I told Narjis I would be glad to help spread the word:

An invitation is open to anyone seeking inner depth with peacefulness to attend Sufi Dhikr Circle to sing a few Songs of Light together and be led in ‘dhikr' (meditation of Remembrance) on Sunday, September 10 from 4p - 6p. This open group meets every 2nd and 4th Sunday at 702 Donaldson at Woodlawn Pointe (opposite Jefferson High and next to Living Church SA) in the 'Common Space Interfaith Initiative', Suite 201. Please contact Narjis Pierre at (210) 367-2042 or narjis.pierre@icloud.com for directions or more information.
