ARTIST STATEMENT

IMG_0792 2.jpg

I begin with a dream and use clay, metal, pigment, fiber, or light to work the dream.  My art is my dance with the dream image.  As I work the dream, it works on me. The resulting pieces range from musical instruments to small wall-mounted figural works to images in photographic series -- to installations.  My work is about holding the tension between light and shadow, allowing new possibilities to unfold...

Raised in central Texas, I then studied music and earned a BA in Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. It wasn’t until I was almost 40 that I earned a BFA at the University of Texas at San Antonio, combining my early love of making art and my interest in using artistic practice as a means for inner development. I am now based in Boulder, Colorado where I live with my family, and where I feel like I have finally come home.

My work is in the collection of the University Health System in San Antonio and in private collections in Georgia, Louisiana and Texas.

Let your throat-song

be clear and strong enough

to make an emperor fall full-length,

suppliant, at the door.
